Any lesion of the hand, arm, elbow or wrist affecting the nerve or originating in the nerve endings must be surgically observed. One of the most common syndromes causing nervous dysfunction is that of the carpal tunnel, in which the median nerve, compressed by the ligaments, creates unpleasant sensations in the fingers of the hand. Less common, compression of the ulnar nerve causes insensitivity of certain fingers in the hand and is caused by compression of an elbow nerve.
Problems related to nerve endings can be treated in surgery by endoscopy or in the open.
